3 Reasons To Become A Dental Hygienist

The dental field is a great field to go into because you have a few different options when it comes to what you can do. One great option is to become a dental hygienist. A dental hygienist works right alongside the dentist and performs a lot of fundamental procedures during check-ups. There are several different reasons why becoming a dental hygienist is a great career option, and three of these reasons will be discussed here, such as:

Flexible Hours

If you are a mom, or if you are looking for something that gives you flexible hours, becoming a dental hygienist is an excellent option. Since a dentist office is generally only open four days each week, and open regular hours, such as 8 am-4 pm or 9 am-5 pm, this makes it easy for you to find a schedule that works for you. Also, a lot of dental hygienists can rotate within the office, so you may only be working one or two days each week if this works best for you. This flexibility is great for moms with young kids who don't want to be away from them a lot, or for moms who have kids in school but want to be home when their kids are home.

Great Pay

The average hourly wage for a dental hygienist in the year of 2016 was $35.31 per hour, with some paying as high as $48.16 per hour. Considering it only takes about a year to become a dental assistant, this is excellent pay. If done full time, this can make an excellent primary income, or if done part time, this is still an excellent amount of money to supplement whatever other income you have.

High Demand Job

If you become a dental hygienist, you will have an excellent job outlook. In fact, in the year 2016, there were 207,900 dental hygienist jobs, and that number is projected to grow each year. With a lot of degrees now becoming obsolete, it is important that you invest in one that will allow you to get a job and bring in a good amount of income. This also opens up doors to living just about anywhere that dental offices are located, which can give you even more comfort and peace of mind.

If you are looking for a career that allows you to work flexible hours and days, pays you well, and is in high demand, then you should consider becoming a dental hygienist.
